All sizes of the pads shall be as specified within a tolerance of plus or minus 3.2 mm (1/8 inch).
Salient characteristics.
Design. The floor pads shall be suitably designed and fabricated for use with either rotary disc or oscillating electric floor machines. The floor pads shall be resilient so that the entire surface area of the pad contacts the floor. The pads shall be uniformly impregnated with abrasive particles within plus or minus 15 percent uniformity. Any concentrations or blotches of
Abrasive particles within the pad, when viewed toward a
bright light source, shall be tested specifically for the 15 percent uniformity
requirement.
Material. The materials used in the manufacture of floor maintenance pad
shall not support the growth of bacteria and must be of such denier, density,
strength quality, and workmanship to produce cohesive pad, uniform in
structure, and reversible with equal performance on both sides. The materials
shall be either nylon or a blend of nylon and polyester and suitable for the
intended use in accordance with good commercial practice. Abrasive particles
shall be made of either natural or synthetic abrasives. The bonding adhesives
shall be such that the pads shall not disintegrate in water, detergent
solutions, oil, wax, or other material normally encountered in floor
maintenance operations.
Type I, nylon floor pads. Type I, nylon floor pads, shall be made of one
piece unified mat. The materials of the pads shall be formed or bonded into a
solid disc. Pads of spirally wound ribbons of interlocking fibers are not
acceptable.
Class 1. The abrasive content for the type I, class 1 buffing and polishing
pads shall be no more than 40 percent by weight. One hundred percent of the
total abrasive particles shall pass through a 200 mesh screen. A minimum of 90
percent of the abrasive particles shall pass through a 270 mesh screen.
Class 2. The abrasive content for the type I, class 2 scrubbing pads
shall be no more than 60 percent by weight. One hundred percent of the total
abrasive particles shall pass through a 150 mesh screen. A minimum of 75
percent of the particles shall pass through a 200 mesh screen. A minimum of 95
percent of the remaining particles shall pass through a 270 mesh screen.
Class 3. The abrasive content for the type I, class 3 stripping pads
shall more than 65 percent by weight. One hundred percent of the total abrasive
particles shall pass through a 100 mesh screen.
A minimum of 65 percent of me particles shall pass
through a 150 mesh screen. A minimum 45 percent of the remaining particles
shall pass through a 150 mesh screen.
