COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HOLDER, FLOOR POLISHING MACHINE PAD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to type III of Interim Federal Specification 00-P-0040.
This commercial item description covers three types of floor maintenance pad holders, also known as drivers, that hold the floor pads used for polishing, buffing, scrubbing, and stripping floors. The holders are for mounting on powder-driven, rotary-disc type floor maintenance machines which have a speed range between 150 and 350 rpm.
The floor pad holders (drivers) are intended for use in heavy duty floor care maintenance. The floor pad holding medium shall be of the following types (see notes):
Type I – Wood block with stiff, plastic bristles without shower feed.
(Malish “Pad-lok” type material).
Type II – Rubber backing with stiff, plastic bristles without shower feed.
(“Insta-lok” type material).
Type III - Rubber backing with stiff, molded plastic hook with shower feed.
(“EWU” type material)
The size and diameter of the floor pad folder (driver) is the diameter of the block, not the machine size (see notes):

Salient characteristics.
The floor pad holder (driver) assembly shall provide for the centering, holding, and quick changing of the floor pad. The driver assembly shall be constructed of suitable corrosion-resisting materials and shall include either a molded or formed block and riser (or a block and riser with the riser firmly mounted on the block); a medium for driving the pad; and, if required, a retaining collar or centering ring. The adapter or clutch plate, when provided, shall mate with a similar drive plate on the user’s machine (see notes).
