COMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLEANER, VACUUM, ELECTRIC
(INSTITUTIONAL/HOSPITAL)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1Scope. This CID covers electric-powered vertical tank type vacuum cleaners to be used for wet and dry pick up in hospital and institutions where aseptic conditions must be maintained these cleaner shall be designed to operate on a single phase power source of 120 voltsac,60 Hz.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The vacuum cleaners shall be of the following sizes
(see 7.2). all sizes are minimum recoverable capacities. To assure close adherence
to the specified sizes, maximum recoverable capacity shall be limited to 3
gallons (11.4 L) greater than minimum recoverable capacity.
Size 1 – 5 gallons (18.9 L).
Size 2 – 10 gallons (37.8 L).
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Standard Commercial Product. The vacuum cleaner shall be the manufacturer’s standard commercial product except for any changes necessary for compliance with this commercial item description.
3.2 UL Conformance. the vacuum cleaner shall meet the applicable requirements of UL 1017. Evidence of conformance with UL 1017 shall be a UL label or listing mark, or a certified test report (base on test conducted within the past two years) from an independent testing laboratory acceptable to the Government, indicating the vacuum cleaner has passed all applicable test.
3.3 Construction.
3.3.1 General. Each cleaner shall be complete, lubricated, and ready to operate (minor assembly is permitted). The design shall be simple in construction, shall permit easy accessibility to component parts for cleaning, inspection, adjustment, or replacement, and shall provide reliable operation. Similar component parts and assemblies of identical model number cleaners shall be fully interchangeable. Interchangeability shall not require alteration or modification.
3.3.2 Wet pickup. The cleaner shall be designed for wet pickup, i.e., retrieval of water or liquid cleaning solutions. The cleaner shall be provided with an automatic shutoff mechanism and accessories required to convert the machine from wet to dry pickup.
